Employee Spotlight: Erin McKeown-Cortez, Community Service Representative Manager

What is your favorite thing about working at Center City District?

EMC: I’m in my 13th year with the Center City District. I’ve seen a lot of changes along the way, but one thing that has always remained in the CSR program is a sense of family. We are a tight knit group who have each other’s backs and come together in times of need. I’m truly grateful to be a part of such a wonderful team.

What is your role, and what does a day in your work life at CCD look like?

EMC: I am a Community Service Representative (CSR) Manager, and I currently work with our C team on the evening shift, from 12pm – 8pm. My day typically starts at 11am, where I plan deployment for the day and do some administrative work. Our team briefing starts promptly at 12pm, where I give my team their assignments and make sure they are ready for their shift. The remainder of my shift is a mixture of meetings, walking the district to make sure all is well, and checking on my team.

What work are you most proud of in your role at CCD?

EMC: I love the instant gratification that being a CSR offers. Countless times I’ve seen the relief on someone’s face when they are lost and I’m able to direct them to their destination or the excitement when I offer a new option for a tourist to see. I truly feel like I make a difference in my city.

If you were planning a day out in Center City, what would be on the agenda?

EMC: Definitely the hop on/off Big Bus tour. It’s a one stop shop. In addition to the awesome double-decker bus transportation, you learn interesting (and honestly pretty cool) facts from the tour guide. I’m a Philly girl born and raised, and even I have learned new things, so I can only imagine what a tourist can learn! Also, you’re free to get off along the route so it gives you the opportunity to experience the things that you’re learning about on the drive. A couple stops I would hop off for are the National Constitution Center to see their show “Freedom Rising” and of course the Reading Terminal Market to grab a cheesesteak. 😊

What is something interesting about you outside of your CCD work that you would like to share about yourself?

EMC: I come from a pretty big Irish/catholic family. I’m the youngest of 9, but my greatest accomplishment (by far) is being the mother of 4! I have 2 girls and 2 boys that keep me busy but being their mother is the greatest honor!
