FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Work set to be completed by the beginning of April

PHILADELPHIA (February 24, 2021) -- Center City District (CCD) is starting repairs at the southern end of Dilworth Park to the glass head house that provides public access to SEPTA’s subways and trolleys. New custom-made glass was fabricated to replace several damaged panels, which are made of multiple layers of laminated structural safety glass.

Beginning today, the entrance will be closed for approximately one month and construction fencing is being installed this week around the entrance. Public access to the concourse is still available in the park through the northern head house and through two elevators. After damage sustained last spring, CCD installed temporary supports so the southern stairs could remain safely open to commuters in the interim.

After extensive reviews and approvals, CCD’s insurance has completely covered the cost of renovation. Work is scheduled for one of the quietest times in the park as winter programming is ending this month and spring programming will commence in April.

Repairs are expected to be completed by the beginning of April. Fabricating and installing the glass has created 30 union-scale construction jobs for 4-6 weeks. All of the damaged glass panels will be recycled.
