Holiday Traditions Return to Dilworth Park This Year

NEW SEASONAL SURPRISES TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON

PHILADELPHIA, PA (October, 2017) — The Rothman Institute Ice Rink at Dilworth Park will open Friday, November 10, 2017, with a salute to veterans. This winter season at Dilworth Park is supported by Live Nation, Temple University, Capital One and 6abc. Welcoming more than 60,000 skaters last season, the Rothman Ice Rink will open this year in time to celebrate winter in the heart of the city.

The rink will remain open seven days a week and all holidays through Feb. 25, 2018. Admission for skating for children 10 and younger is $3. Admission for adults is $5, and skate rental is $10 per person. The Rothman Institute Rink hours of operations are, Monday – Thursday, noon – 9 p.m., Friday, noon – 11 p.m., Saturday, 11 a.m. – 11 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Special holiday hours are as follows:
Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23: noon – 8 p.m.
Black Friday Nov. 24: 10 a.m. – 11 p.m.
Christmas Eve, Dec. 24: 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Christmas Day, Dec. 25: noon – 8 p.m.
Holiday Break, Dec. 25 – 30: 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.
New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31: 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.
New Year’s Day, Jan. 1: 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 15: 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.
President’s Day, Feb. 19: 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.

The Rothman Institute Cabin and Air Grille is a cozy reprieve from the cold with rustic decor, and family-friendly fun. Grab food specials from Brûlée Catering, while guests 21 years and older can enjoy cold beer, including Stella Artois and Victory Brewing Company Ales on tap. Warm up at the fire pits with seasonal cocktails featuring Effen Vodka, Hornitos Tequila and DeKuyper Cordials.

The Rothman Institute Cabin will be open in November and December, Monday – Thursday, 11 a.m. – 9 p.m., Friday – Saturday, 11 a.m. – 11 p.m., Sunday, 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. In January and February, it will be open Monday – Thursday, 4 – 9 p.m., Friday, 4 – 11 p.m., Saturday, 11 a.m. – 11 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Dilworth Park Café hours are Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Enjoy the cabin on Wednesday nights all season long with Cocktails and Cold Ones specials, 5 – 7 p.m. From the folks that bring you Center City District Sips, guests 21 years and older can enjoy a winter edition, featuring $6 Effen Vodka Cocktails, $5 wine and $4 Bud Light draft beers, along with specially-priced food items from the Dilworth Park Air Grille. After a busy day of holiday shopping, pop into the cabin for a drink special, and get a Lyft. Lyft is the official rideshare partner for the Rothman Cabin.

Anyone new to ice skating can enroll in Learn to Skate classes, lessons for children and adults where basics are taught in 30-minute sessions led by professional skate instructors. A four-week session costs $100, and includes lessons, admission and skate rental. All sessions are on Tuesdays. Session One is Nov. 28, Dec. 5, 12 and 19. Session two is Jan. 2, 9, 16, and 23, and session 3 is Jan. 30, Feb. 6, 13 and 20.

Also opening on Friday, November 10, 2017, is America’s Garden Capital Maze, a holiday-inspired garden created in partnership with Greater Philadelphia Gardens and supported by Temple University Ambler. Located on the Albert M. Greenfield Lawn, children and adults will delight in discovering picture-perfect moments amid holiday topiaries, twinkling lights, and seasonal plants that showcase more than 30 public gardens, arboreta, and historic landscapes located within 30 miles of Philadelphia, giving Philadelphia the distinction of America's Garden Capital. The maze, which is made possible by a grant from the William Penn Foundation, will be open through Sunday, February 25, 2018. For more information, visit www.americasgardencapital.org.

Complementing the Maze, join the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society for a variety of free garden workshops in the Rothman Institute Cabin. Representatives from the Ambler Arboretum of Temple University will be on hand to lead “Ask the Expert” sessions in the America’s Garden Capital Maze following each workshop. The Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market will open again this year at the southern end of Dilworth Park, featuring local artisans, designers and crafters offering unique selections for gifts. The market was conceived and designed to complement the Christmas Village in Philadelphia. The market opens Saturday, November 18, 2017, with special hours on Thanksgiving Day and extended hours on Black Friday, and closes Monday, January 1, 2018.

Join SEPTA and Center City District for Santa Express, with fun-filled holiday train rides and a festive parade to welcome Santa Claus to Dilworth Park at City Hall. Festivities will also include skating with Santa at the Rothman Ice Rink. Kick off the season on Friday, November 24, 2017, and spend the day in Philadelphia visiting the city’s boutiques on this shoppers’ holiday. Dilworth Park has convenient access to SEPTA’s Broad Street, Market-Frankford and Trolley Lines. Bus routes stop at City Hall/Dilworth Park and Regional Rail is just steps away. Once again this year, Dilworth Park is happy to host the viewer and media stands for the 117th annual Mummers Parade. The parade will begin at City Hall, with the main performance taking place just steps from Dilworth Park on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2017.
