With vaccine distribution off to an uneven start nationally and multiple restrictions in place locally, Philadelphia’s slow recovery from the economic downturn stalled in November. This report is being updated monthly and tracks key indicators of the Philadelphia economy and the vitality of Center City. The statistics presented represent the most recently available data for each indicator. While December employment data is not available yet for individual cities, nationally, employers eliminated 140,000 jobs in December and that is likely to be the trend within Philadelphia. Once a well-organized vaccination program begins with sufficient supply and major employers begin to reopen their offices, signs should point to a more robust recovery.
