Young visitors can explore nature in an urban setting in the Children’s Discovery Garden in Sister Cities Park. Inspired by Philadelphia’s Wissahickon Valley, the garden’s winding pathways, scalable rocks and meandering stream provide a setting for discovery and imaginative play. Children can hike the trail, summit the “mountain” and enjoy the view, while connecting with the natural and man-made environments surrounding them.
Work is underway to create more play opportunities in the Children’s Discovery Garden at Sister Cities Park. The Children's Discovery Garden is temporarily closed. Learn more about the new features coming to the park this spring.
Enjoy the pleasures of sailing in the boat pond. Bring your own model boat or buy one at the park to navigate the shallow waters for hours of fun. Small boats are $3 and large boats are $5. The Boat Pond is now closed for the season and will re-open in Spring of 2020.
Courtesy of corporate partner TD Bank, America's Most Convenient Bank® with support from the Free Library of Philadelphia, the Library in the Park program has been refreshed with a larger, brighter cart, and it now includes more books for children to read. It is ongoing and available during park hours for children to select books to read while they are in the park. The program is geared toward toddlers and preschoolers with books specially selected for their age group.
During the cool-weather months, Imagination Playground™ is installed in the boat pond area in the Children's Discovery Garden. This fun equipment encourages children to participate in unstructured play.
