Dilworth Park Gears Up For Winter Festivities

Yearly Transformation Into A Holiday Wonderland Is Around the Corner

PHILADELPHIA (October 15, 2018) — Winter is coming, and the transformation of Dilworth Park will soon be underway. Dilworth’s fountain will be turned off for the season on October 16 and the new Pulse art installation will say goodbye till spring after the conclusion of Octoberfest on October 17-21.

Those changes will quickly usher in preparations for winter at Dilworth Park, presented by Rothman Orthopaedic Institute, Independence Blue Cross, Capital One, Temple University, Live Nation and 6abc.

The season kicks off November 9 with the opening of the Rothman Orthopaedics Ice Rink, Rothman Orthopaedics Cabin, and Wintergarden followed by the Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market opening November 17.

Then on November 19, 6abc and Center City District are teaming up again for the return of the Deck the Hall Light Show presented by Independence Blue Cross. Details are coming soon about the opening night kickoff and media event – stay tuned!

The Rothman Orthopaedics Rink will be open daily through the end of February. Admission is $3 for children 10 and younger, and $5 for adults; skate rental is $10 per person. Temple University staff and students receive $1 off admission with presentation of their Temple University ID.

Rothman Orthopaedics Cabin programs are presented by The Met Philadelphia and The Franklin Institute and will include:

  • Tuesdays 6-8 p.m.: Quizzo hosted by Johnny Goodtimes, along with drink specials and prizes each week. There will be sneak peeks of Vikings: Beyond the Legend at The Franklin Institute and visits from Viking re-enactors, plus Quizzo winners will receive free tickets to the exhibit running through March 3.
  • Wednesdays 5-7 p.m.: Cocktails and Cold Ones presented by The Met Philadelphia with a seasonal menu and specially priced EFFEN Vodka cocktails, Bud Light draft beer and a selection of wines, plus weekly ticket giveaways from The Met, the historic former Philadelphia Metropolitan Opera House opening in December on North Broad Street.
  • Thursdays 5-9 p.m.: College Nights. Admission is $2 for college students with student ID. (Skate rental not included. Discount not applicable in conjunction with other offers.)

Wintergarden, a holiday-inspired garden also opening November 9, is made for picture-perfect moments amid holiday topiaries, twinkling lights, cozy seating, and seasonal plantings. TD is proud to support Wintergarden to create a healthier and more sustainable Center City.

The Made in Philadelphia Holiday Market opens for business on November 17 with dozens of local artisans, designers and crafters. The market is open Sunday-Thursday 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 11 a.m. – 8 p.m., with special hours on Thanksgiving Day and extended hours on Black Friday.

Deck the Hall Light Show presented by Independence Blue Cross returns November 19 with a visually stunning show projected on the southern façade of City Hall multiple times every evening through January 1.

Also supported by 6abc, this made-for-selfies spectacle will be longer this year and will feature new elements (more details on the debut event coming soon). Nightly shows start at 5:30 p.m. and repeat as follows:
November 19 every 30 minutes
November 20 – December 20 Sunday-Thursday: every 60 minutes, Friday-Saturday: every 30 minutes
December 21 – January 1 every 30 minutes

Santa Express is coming to town on November 23 from 10:30 a.m. until noon, welcoming Santa and Mrs. Claus to Dilworth Park with SEPTA holiday-decorated train rides, a parade, ice skating and a cookie decorating station featuring holiday cookies made with Keller’s Creamery butter.
