The Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia
Announces the 2010 Preservation Month Reception and Lecture
Philadelphia, Pa - The Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia is pleased to announce its annual Preservation Month Reception and Panel Presentation will take place on Monday, May 10, 2010, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Center for Architecture, 1218 Arch Street.
This year’s event highlights the exhibit, Ride!Philadelphia, which will be on display at the Center throughout the month of May and will feature nearly 50 of the 72 posters created by the Center City District. Ride!Philadelphia is an educational signage program at bus stops throughout Center City. The two-sided signs feature an historic image on one side and a “heads-up” transit map on the other, telling riders where they are and where they can get to.
The Ride!Philadelphia program increases public awareness of historic preservation and its importance by showcasing the surviving treasures and tragic losses to the built environment. The signs attract the attention of both casual passers-by and devout enthusiasts of Philadelphia’s past. They return history to the point of its origin—on the street—to be experienced by all.
John Gallery, Executive Director of the Preservation Alliance, and a representative of Center City District will convene a panel of three historians who will make presentations focusing on the history of a select group of the locations depicted in the posters.
The event is free and open to the public but reservations are requested. To reserve a space contact Patrick Hauck, Director of Neighborhood Preservation Programs at 215.546.1146 x4 or patrick@preservationalliance.com.
