Love and Lighting In the Air Across Center City This Valentine’s Day

(February 11, 2010) – When strolling about Center City with your sweetheart this Valentine’s Day evening, take a minute or two to look up and bask in the glow of prominent downtown Philadelphia landmarks and buildings lit in vivid shades of red and pink, courtesy of the Center City District (CCD), the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) and private property owners.

The nine buildings on the Avenue of the Arts lit by the CCD with permanent light-emitting diode (LED) façade lighting will celebrate with a bright, kinetic light show. Also joining in the festivities will be the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, Two Liberty Place, Hyatt Regency Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing, the Mellon Bank Building and Cira Centre. The PECO Building will feature special Valentine’s Day messages.

Many of the participating buildings use color-changing LED lighting, due to its energy efficiency, long life, its effectiveness in highlighting distinctive architectural details and its ability to provide fanciful, brilliant light shows for holidays and city-wide celebrations at a much lower cost.

“2009 was the first full year we worked to coordinate festive lighting on a large scale across Center City,” said CCD President Paul R. Levy. “Now, as we proceed into 2010, these river-to-river light shows are becoming something of an institution.”

Participating building managers/property owners include: Delaware River Port Authority, Brandywine Realty Trust, PECO, Hyatt, ACP Mid-Atlantic, REIT Management and the Center City District, along with property owners on the Avenue of the Arts.

The Center City District, a private-sector sponsored business improvement district dedicated to making Center City Philadelphia clean, safe and attractive, is committed to maintaining Center City’s competitive edge as a regional employment center, a quality place to live, and a premier regional destination for dining, shopping and cultural attractions.
