Winter Activities at Dilworth Park

 Series of Horticultural Programs Help Prepare for Spring

PHILADELPHIA (December 14, 2016) – Dilworth Park will be hosting a diverse range of activities in the New Year, from special skating outings at the Rothman Institute Ice Rink to free hands-on gardening classes, to happy hours in the Rothman Institute Cabin.

Throughout January and February, Greater Philadelphia Gardens, which partnered with the CCD to create America’s Garden Capital Maze on the south side of Dilworth Park, will present free horticultural programs for both families and adults. Programs will be held in the Rothman Institute Cabin on the north side of the park and are made possible by generous funding from the William Penn Foundation. Whether you have a large backyard, a small roof deck, or a sunny apartment window, you will enjoy these programs:

Bulb Forcing Demonstration, January 7, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. (Family)

College Nights, Tuesdays through February 21, 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. College students pay $2 for admission (skate rental not included). 
Cocktail and Cold Ones, Wednesdays through February 22, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Enjoy $5 cocktails from Jim Beam, $4 wine and $3 Sam Adams beers, along with specially priced food items from the Dilworth Park Air Grille.
Zombie Skate, Friday, January 13, 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. Come dressed as a zombie, enter to win a special prize, and skate as zombies take over the rink to celebrate Friday the 13th.
New Year – Healthy New You, Saturday, January 14, Noon – 2 p.m. Explore healthy resources, including fun fitness activities and healthy eating tips at the Rothman Institute Rink and Cabin as you burn calories ice skating.
Princess & Pirate Skate, Saturday, January 21, Noon – 2 p.m. Children are invited to dress as their favorite pirate or princess for ice skating, make and take a craft, enjoy complimentary face painting, and more.
Sweetheart Skate, Sunday, February 12, 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Buy one admission and get one admission free to skate with your sweetheart to the tunes of love songs. Skaters receive a keepsake photo and can make and take Valentine’s Day cards.
Skate.Pride.Love, Monday, February 13, 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. Join Dilworth Park, PGN and Delaware Valley Legacy Fund in a special evening to celebrate love and acceptance with entertainment, skating and giveaways. A portion of proceeds will benefit Delaware Valley Legacy Fund. Tickets for Skate.Pride.Love are available online at dilworthpark.org.
The Philadelphia Orchestra Presents Symphony Sundays, Noon to 2 p.m., through February 26, with music recorded by The Philadelphia Orchestra to accompany you while you skate.

If you enjoyed summer’s Center City District Sips, you’ll love Cocktails and Cold Ones. Every Wednesday night, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. through February 22, stop by the Rothman Institute Cabin for Cocktails and Cold Ones with $5 Jim Beam Apple and Effen Blood Orange Vodka cocktails, $4 wine, and $3 Sam Adams drafts, along with specially priced food items from the Dilworth Park Air Grille.

Admission to the Rothman Institute Ice Rink is $3 for children 10 and under, $5 for adults, and skate rental is $10. Hours are Noon to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday; Noon to 11:00 p.m. on Friday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Admission to the Maze is free. For groups (10 or more guests, $12 each including skate rental), please email groups@rinkmanagement.com.

The Rothman Institute Cabin is open for skaters to enjoy food and beverage in a cozy setting in January and February, Mondays to Thursdays, 4 p.m. – 9 p.m.; Fridays, 4 p.m. – 11 p.m.; Saturdays, 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.; and Sundays, 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
